Sendang Sono (Gua Maria Sendang Sono)

Another post about traveling! After post about St.Yacobus church Surabaya, Yogyakarta and post the Tamansari Water Castle today is Sendang Sono Kulon Progo. Sendang Sono is a religious place with The Cave of Mary, if you the Catholic religion may be familiar with the Cave of Mary Sendang Sono.

Its very difficult to come here for those who have never been at all, highly recommended to bring friends who are familiar with the route to Sendang Sono because quite confusing. I visited Sendang Sono last week with my BF, my friends and the girlfriend of my friend. And none of us are familiar with the route, we were finally able to find by asking the villagers. Sendangsono route is up and down and close to the abyss, for the first visit, you should go home before evening.

Finally arrived in Sendang Sono, First we are heading is The Cave of Mary, in front of the cave there is a vase for flowers, and a place to light candles before praying.

To the entrance there is a lot of souvenir sellers, candles, rosaries and other Christian stuff.


After we finished praying goes down, there are sources of water for baptism. Sendang Sono means "water spring under a sono tree". There is a history of baptism in this place in ancient times.


And we could take water as holy water,


Sendang Sono architecture is very unique, because it is designed by Romo Mangun. Romo Mangun was an modern Indonesian architect, writer, and Catholic religious leader.

Then we walked toward the back, there is a small path to the empty places like forests, my BF walks around to see the situation.

Along the way I saw some houses with unique architecture, this may be the home for the Sendang Sono caretaker.

Back to Sendang Sono area, we sat down in the corner while enjoying the calm and comfortable atmosphere

Usually Catholic religious place there must be many dogs, as well as Sendang Sono, don't worry, they are tame

Then we go down to see some unique buildings, its written "Kapel Para Rasul" but I do not know what the function of this building.
