Actually it's been a while since I visited Sam Poo Kong temple in Semarang. I went to Sam Poo Kong temple at 16 Febuary 2013, but I was a bit disappointed because I failed to visit Semawis, because at that time Semarang a bit flooding and we had difficulty to Semawis.

The next day (17 Febuary) we went to the Sam Poo Kong, when we get there in the afternoon, about 3 o'clock, and I was quite surprised because the atmosphere is quiet, I think the atmosphere will be crowded.

But I'm not so disappointed because I can enjoyed the calm atmosphere. Here's a little explanation of Sam Poo Kong which I read from wikipedia :

Sam Poo Kong Temple is the oldest Chinese temple in Semarang, Central Java, Indonesia. Originally established by a Chinese Muslim explorer, it is now shared by Indonesians of multiple religious denominations, including Muslims and Buddhists, and ethnicities, including Chinese and Javanese.

The foundations of Sam Poo Kong were set when Chinese Muslim explorer Admiral Zheng He arrived in the western part of what is now Semarang via the Garang River. the year is disputed, with suggestions ranging from 1400 to 1416.After disembarking from his ships, Zheng found a cave in a rocky hillside and used it for prayer. He established a small temple before leaving Java, but having grown fond of the area his deputy Wang Jing and several crewmen remained behind.

I'm interested in a small sculpture on the roof of the temple, it's seems to be a series of sculptures of animals, what it means to put the animal statues on the roof? if anything to do with the 12 Chinese Zodiac? but I count the number of animals vary widely. What's the story behind this animal sculptures?
